Tourist Attraction In Delhi

 
 

Rashtrapati Bhawan: Standing on Raisina Hill, it was built by the British as the residence of the Viceroy of India. It is the official residence of the President of India. The massive building is surrounded by 330 acres of land and one of the finest gardens of the country, The Mughal Gardens.

Rajpath & India Gate: Flanked by ornamental ponds and lawns, Rajpath is host to the Republic Day Parade.


India Gate is a 42 metre high stone arch of triumph. It bears the name of the 85,000 Indian Army Soldiers who died in the campaigns of WW1. Below the arch is the memorial to the unknown soldier.

Humayun's Tomb: The splendour of this grand monument becomes overpowering on entering through the lofty double storied gateway. It is set in the centre of a large square garden enclosed by high walls on three sides, while the river would have been the fourth boundary.

The Ghats: Along the banks of Yamuna are located the places were the leaders and freedom fighters of India were cremated. The Raj Ghat, one of the most visited ghats, marks the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated after his assassination in 1948.



Jantar Mantar:
The unique observatory with masonry instruments was designed by astronomer King Sawai Jai Singh II in 1724 AD.

Purana Qila: The fort is said to have been constructed on the historic site of Indraprastha (900 BC) by Humayun and Sher Shah Suri. Covering a circuit of about a mile, the walls of the fort have three gates and are surrounded by a moat fed by the river Yamuna. The notable buildings that have survived in the fort are the Sher Mandal and the Quila-I-kholina Mosque.


Red Fort: Built with red sandstone, which gives it its name, the fort is one of the best surviving monuments. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1638 AD.

Qutab Minar: It is one of the earliest remains of Imperial Delhi and the tallest monument of early times. Qutab-ud-din Aibak, the first Muslim ruler of Delhi, commenced the construction of the Qutab Minar in 1200 AD, but could only finish the basement. His successor, Iltutmush, added three more storeys, and in 1368, Firoz Shah Tughlak constructed the fifth and the last storey.



Jama Masjid: One of the Architectural gifts given by Shah Jahan, Jama Masjid is the largest mosque in
India. Completed in 1658, this Mosque has three gateways, four angle towers and two 40 metre high minarets. One can also go to the top of minarets. From here you can have a bird’s eye view of Delhi.

Birla Mandir: This temple was built by G. D. Birla in 1938. This beautiful temple is located in the west of Connaught Place. The temple is dedicated to the goddess of prosperity and good fortune. The temple has well grafted gardens. It is also known as the Lakshmi Narayan Temple.

Bahai Temple:
The white lotus shaped temple completed in 1986 signifies the purity and universality of the Lord and equality of all religions.

National Museum: The National Museum, located on Janpath, south of Rajpath, has a good collection of Indian bronzes, terracotta and wood sculptures dating back to the Mauryan period ( 2nd-3rd century BC), exhibits from the Vijayanagar period in south India, miniature and mural paintings, and costumes of various tribal people.

National Rail Museum: It was built as per plan of British architect M G Satto in 1957, 1st Feb, on a carpet area of 10 acres of land. The museum displays 27 locomotives and 17 carriages.

Other Museums include: National Gallery of Modern Art, International Dolls Museum, Crafts Museum, Indira Gandhi Memorial Museum, Nehru Museum and Nehru Planetarium. 

Akshardham Temple : Tour the massive mega Akshardham Temple Complex in Delhi, India and explore an amazing world of Indian culture ornate with 20, 000 statues, floral motifs, arches and exquisitely carved pillars. The main monument at the Akshardham temple in Delhi is about 141-foot high and houses a lovely statue of Lord Swaminarayan 

The Sound and Light Show at Red Fort : Every evening a sound and light show recreates the Red fort's history. There are shows in English and Hindi, and tickets are available from the Fort. The English sessions are held at 7.30pm from November through January The show is highly recommended.

Half day tour of
New Delhi
(1430hrs to 1730hrs)

Afternoon at 1430 hrs, tour will start from Hotel Le Meridien. New Delhi was designed and built by the British in the 1920's - it's a city of wide boulevards, impressive Government buildings, green parks and gardens. You will visit two monuments from Delhi's past - Humayun's Tomb and Qutab Minar. Your drive takes you along the ceremonial avenue.

Morning at 0930 hrs, proceed for half day city tour of Old Delhi. Old
Delhi was an ancient walled city. Here you will see Red Fort, the most opulent Fort and Palace of the Mughal Empire; Raj Ghat, the memorial site of the Mahatma Gandhi; Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India; and Chandni Chowk, the bustling and colourful market of the old city. Afternoon at 1430 hrs, proceed to visit  the Bahai temple, which is also known as the Lotus temple. Built between 1980 and 1986, it is set amongst pools and gardens, and adherents of any faith are free to visit the temple and pray or meditate silently according to their own religion.

Morning after breakfast around 0700 a.m – journey by road will start for Agra (220 kms / 4 hours drive). On arrival in Agra proceed for the sightseeing tour of the city visiting one of the Seven Wonders of the World Taj Mahal with its romantic glory and architectural marvel. This beautifully constructed monument is considered as most symmetrically designed structure. Taj Great Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built Taj Mahal in 1652 for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal. It took 22 years to create this jewel.

 Lunch at a Restaurant. Later visit Agra Fort on the bank of river Yamuna. Four successive Mughal rulers has added on to make this massive Fort with their distinctive different style of architecture.

 Late afternoon drive back to Delhi

 Morning after breakfast around 0700 a.m – journey by road will start for Jaipur (258 kms / 4.5 hours drive). Enroute visit Amber Fort located on the outskirt of the city. Also enjoy a joy ride on Elephant to ascend the rampart

 Lunch in a restaurant in Jaipur and later proceed for sightseeing tour of the Pink City visiting City Palace – where the former Maharaja’s family still resides in one part. Rest of the Palace now serves as a Museum. It has a rich collection of Rajput weaponry and treasures of Royal House like textiles, carpets, miniature paintings and precious manuscripts etc. Later visit Jantar Mantar – the astronomical observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh – a great astronomer himself. Finally visit Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds) with its architectural marvel.
