ITINERARY7 : JOURNEY THROUGH EASTERN HIMALAYA
9 NIGHTS / 10 DAYS TOUR OF
DELHI– BAGDOGRA – DARJEELING –GANGTOK -BAGDOGRA -KOLKATA -DELHI

 

 

Day 01 - Arrive Delhi

Arrive Delhi by International flight at an early hour. Meet at the airport by our representative and transfer to the hotel (rooms are booked from previous day for immediate occupancy).

Morning – leisure.

Afternoon – proceed for the Combined sightseeing tour of New & Old Delhi.

New Delhi is the capital of India and a bustling metropolis. Delhi ’s history dates back to the period of Mahabharat almost 5000 years ago. Delhi has been the seat of power for a very long period. Delhi has much to offer with high rise building, well laid tree lined boulevards, rich monumental heritage, concrete flyovers interspersed with well laid gardens, magnificient domes and Victorian buildings.

During the sightseeing tour you will be visiting Qutab Minar, Humayun Tomb, Lotus Temple , Raj Ghat – the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. Also during the tour you will drive past The Red Fort, Jama Mashjid, Chadni Chowk , India Gate, Parliament House and President House.

Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 02: Delhi - Bagdogra - Darjeeling

 

Breakfast in the hotel. Later transfer to the airport for flight to Bagdogra (IC 879 – 11.20 am / 1.10 a.m operates on Mon / Fri or CD 7891 – 07.15 a.m / 9.55 a.m operates on Tue/Thu/ Sat).

Meet at Bagdogra airport by our local representative and drive to Darjeeling (90 Kms / 3 hours drive). On arrival in Darjeeling , check in to the hotel. Rest of the free to relax. Stay overnight at the hotel

Day 03: Darjeeling

Early morning visit to Tiger Hill to view the sunrise over Kanchanjunga Mount – the second highest mountain in the world along with other great eastern Himalayan Mountain ranges. In a very clear weather even Mount Everest – world’s highest peak, is some time visible. Tiger Hill is situated at an altitude of 2590 mtrs (8482 ft.). Return to the hotel en-route visiting Ghoom Monastery. It is one of the oldest Buddhist monasteries, where the manuscripts written on birch bark are well preserved.

Breakfast in the hotel. Later proceed for the sightseeing tour of the city visiting Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, one of the premier schools of mountaineering in the world. Botanical Garden and Tibetan refugee center – the center produces excellent carpets, woolen goods, wood and leather works etc.

Evening – free for independent activities. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 04: Darjeeling

Darjeeling is famous for tea producing. Darjeeling tea is one of the most premium tea in the world for its aroma and delicacy. There are about 70 tea estates in and around Darjeeling set in the slopes of Himalayas in terrace cultivation form.

After breakfast – visit a tea garden near Darjeeling to watch hundreds of Nepali women are on their job in tealeaves plucking, which in its self is and art and technical. Later on visit the tea- processing unit, where the thrashing, washing, cutting, drying process takes place before blending and packaging. The entire processing is interesting and engrossing. Later afternoon return to the hotel. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 05: Darjeeling - Gangtok

Breakfast in the hotel. Later drive to Gangtok (90 kms / 3 hours drive). On arrival, check in to the hotel.
Afternoon - visit Du – drul Chorten, the research Institute of Tibetology , the most prestigious one of its kind in India . Later visit Orchid sanctuary where one can see almost 500 varities of Orchids. Evening at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

 Day 06: Gangtok

Breakfast in the hotel. Morning – visit the famous Rumtek Monastery. The head of Kagyupa of Buddhism was given refugee in Sikkim when Chinese overran Tibet . He was granted land to built the monastery and finally raised Rumtek in 1960s. It is replica of the monastery in Taruphu in Tibet , the residence of His Holiness and also headquarters of Dharma Chakra Religious center.

Afternoon – visit Cottage Industries and explore the local bazaar of Gangtok for souvenirs. Evening – at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 07: Gangtok - Bagdogra - Kolkata (Calcutta)

Breakfast in the hotel. Later - drive down to Bagdogra airport (124 kms / 4 hours drive) for flight IC 879 at 3.55 p.m to Kolkata. (This flight operates only on Tue / Fri / Sun). Arrive Kolkata at 4.50 p.m. Meet at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Evening – at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 08: Kolkata

Kolkata formerly known as Calcutta remains a city of Paradox . The city has been called as City of Palaces or City of Joy because of its multifaceted character. The grandeur and past glory can be glimpses through magnificent buildings of British period. The vibrancy of the city reflects in its rich cultural heritage. The city remains as deeply steeped in art, culture and sports activities.

After breakfast – proceed for the full day sightseeing tour of the city visiting Victoria Memorial Hall & Museum, Indian Museum, Pareshnath Jain temple, Writers building, driving past Howrah Bridge, Central business center etc. Evening – at leisure. Stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 09: Kolkata - Delhi

Breakfast in the hotel. Morning – free for independent activities or free for shopping. Afternoon – transfer to the airport for flight IC 201 at 5 p.m. Arrive Delhi at 7.05 p.m. Meet at the airport and transfer to a transit hotel for wash & change.

Day 10: Leave Delhi
